This Magic-Rockets trade breaks up the Harden-Westbrook duo

Why the Houston Rockets Should Do It

There is a slight turnover happening with the Houston Rockets and it began with Mike D’Antoni and Daryl Morey. It could continue with Russell Westbrook. Houston brought the former Oklahoma City guard to town to try and create a dynamic duo to compete in the Western Conference. It didn’t quite work out as planned.

This trade benefits the Rockets because it allows James Harden to go back to being the primary scorer and ball handler. Aaron Gordon and Evan Fournier are nice role players who can score when needed but do not dominate the game with the ball in their hands. Also, they are strong defensively.

The Rockets needs help on that side of the ball and this would go a long way while continuing to play into their perimeter-oriented attack. Plus, there is no harm in accumulating draft picks, too.

If the Rockets are going to actively shop Westbrook, this is one of the better deals they could hope for. It works both sides in different ways. With a new coach, Houston could look to make some changes to try and win the Western Conference moving forward.
