Utah Jazz Receive: Blake Griffin, Derrick Rose

Detroit Pistons Receive: Mike Conley, No. 23 pick, 2021 2nd round pick (via Golden State)

We mentioned Derrick Rose in the last slide, and in this hypothetical, he’s packaged with Blake Griffin to the Utah Jazz in exchange for Mike Conley and picks.

The Pistons acquire Conley as in the first hypothetical, but Detroit also grab the No. 23 pick, and a future second rounder via the Warriors. The draft selections would be compensation for Rose since he has legitimate trade value on a favorable contract.

The Pistons are rebuilding, and the No. 23 pick gives Detroit another asset to continue to build around. It also puts Mike Conley in a cleaner situation without Rose to be in a position to boost his trade value— leading to ideally a trade at the mid-season deadline.

The Pistons also hold the No. 7 pick, so this trade would see them have two of the first 23 picks. Overall, Detroit would have a solid start to a needed rebuild.
