Why the Golden State Warriors Should Do It
The objective is clear for the Golden State Warriors; win another championship. It’s rare to have a proven title winning core and then land the No. 2 pick in the NBA Draft.
After a down season due to injuries, the Warriors will be back with Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson returning to the lineup. Golden State should use the No. 2 pick to add another intriguing talent into the mix to supercharge the supporting cast around an all-time great shooting duo.
The option of pursuing Nikola Vucevic is a fascinating one when considering his skill-set. He would add layers to the Warriors’ ball screening sequences with his ability to roll and pop effectively— along with post-ups against switches.
Vucevic is capable of operating dribble handoffs, can make plays out of the mid-post and near the nail. Additionally, he has to be respected as an offensive threat when setting off-ball screens and can serve as a relief option. These are all intriguing layers to think about.
Basically, it would be a cleaner fit to integrate Vucevic offensively with Curry and Thompson compared to Wiggins. Golden State could then use the MLE to target an option like Glenn Robinson III to fill the wing.
