This NBA Draft prospect is ‘in play’ for Pistons with No. 7 pick

The Detroit Pistons will need to make the most of their No. 7 selection in the 2020 NBA Draft. While it remains to be seen who will be available by the time they are on the clock, one particular option that appears intriguing is former Florida State standout Patrick Williams.

Standing at 6-foot-8, Williams has an impressive athletic profile that features lateral quickness, strength, and explosiveness. That is a combination NBA teams could use defensively to help thrive in a switch-heavy scheme— something that’s not easy to find.

When factoring in Williams also has a 7-feet wingspan and an ability to hit pull-up 3s, it’s easy to see why his stock has been on the rise ahead of the 2020 NBA Draft. It’s simply rare to find a prospect with his skill-set and physical intangibles.

According to B/R’s Jonathan Wasserman, Patrick Williams is ‘in play’ for the Detroit Pistons with the No. 7 pick in the 2020 NBA Draft.

I reported weeks ago that Florida State’s Patrick Williams was gaining steam as a top-10 pick. We’re now hearing he’s in play at No. 7 to the Detroit Pistons, though they’re also interested in Haliburton, Hayes and Lewis.

The Pistons are a team that could use just about any position so expect them to adopt a ‘best player available’ approach with their selections. If Williams is on the board by the time Detroit is on the clock, he would require strong consideration, at the very least.

Taking a player like Williams that primarily projects as playing the four spot could provide an additional reason for the Pistons to trade Blake Griffin. Doing so would afford more opportunities to Wiliams to help prioritize his development right away.

In our latest 2020 NBA Mock Draft, Williams ended up slotting in at No. 17 to the Minnesota Timberwolves. It sounds as if he will be one of the hottest rising prospects on the next of our first-round projections.

It will be interesting to see which prospect ends up being selected by the Detroit Pistons in the 2020 NBA Draft. For now, there is a lot that can change leading up to the actual night of the selections.
