Why the Pacers Should Do It
As we’ve written here in the past, the Pacers would probably have their choice of offers if they elect to trade Oladipo.
By acquiring Eric Bledsoe, the Pacers add versatility and flexibility to their backcourt. It would come at the cost of Oladipo, but Indiana would have the luxury of sliding Malcolm Brodgon over to shooting guard while Bledsoe runs the point.
Indiana could use that pick and keep the player, or use it as an asset.
Bledsoe proved last season that he’s still consistent, as his overall production hasn’t wavered much since joining Milwaukee. He averaged 14.9 points, shot nearly 80% from the free throw line and had an eFG% of 53%.
Bledsoe’s PER last season, 17.6, is nearly on par with his mark for his entire career, at 18.0.
With Bledsoe and Brogdon, the Pacers may not miss a beat in the backcourt. And, as an added benefit for Indiana, they would have control over Bledsoe through 2022-23. Victor Oladipo, of course, can reach free agency next year, in comparison.
