NBA Mock Draft: Picks 1-5
1. Minnesota Timberwolves — LaMelo Ball, G, USA
It remains unclear who will end up going No. 1 overall in this year’s NBA Draft. If there isn’t a trade down from the Timberwolves, the most likely option appears to be LaMelo Ball. Standing at 6-foot-7, he can play alongside D’Angelo Russell in the backcourt and provide intriguing passing ability.
2. Golden State Warriors — Deni Avdija, F, Israel
It’s no secret that smokescreen reports get put out around the time of the NBA Draft. The Warriors are ‘impressed’ in just about every top prospect in this class, per recent reports. However, going with a wing that can move the ball and defend like Deni Avdija makes plenty of sense.
3. Charlotte Hornets — Anthony Edwards, G, Georgia
There has been shades of Dwayne Wade and Victor Oladipo from the former Georgia standout Anthony Edwards. His frame and explosiveness provide him fascinating potential. However, going to the right team that can help refine his skill-set to establish consistency will be important.
4. Chicago Bulls — Tyrese Haliburton, G, Iowa State
It sounds as if the Bulls will go the route of prioritizing adding a playmaker with the No. 4 pick. Tyrese Haliburton provides an efficient impact but the main question is whether he has star potential. He projects as being a helpful contributor, nevertheless.
5. Cleveland Cavaliers — James Wiseman, C, Memphis
The Cavaliers have emphasized bolstering their backcourt with their top selections in recent NBA Drafts. Now, they will have an opportunity to add a 7-foot-1 center with a 7-foot-4 wingspan. A great athlete with those measurements can be quite valuable, especially on a rookie deal.
