Why The Detroit Pistons Should Do It
In 2017-18, when Gary Harris was 23, he averaged a career-high 17.5 points per game, in a career-high 34.4 minutes per game. That season, he had an eFG% of 57%. His career appeared to be on a great trajectory, but unfortunately, he has dealt with injuries in the time since.
Harris’s stock may be down compared to 2017, but he has shown flashes of the type of player he can be at times for the Denver Nuggets.
Detroit in particular could be an ideal landing spot for Harris, who starred at Michigan State under Tom Izzo. He could benefit from being back near a familiar place, and after six seasons in Denver, Harris may have hit his ceiling in the Mile High City.
Lastly, because Detroit hypothetically parts with Rose, they also land a first round pick. Even though it’s a late first rounder (No. 22 overall, from Denver via Houston), a rebuilding team such as Detroit could still benefit from the pick.
