Why the Celtics Should Do It
Drummond would fill a need for Boston at center. At 6’11” he would be the size upgrade in the middle that the Celtics need, as he’d be able to fortify the front court.
But in this hypothetical, it comes at the cost of Brown.
If the Celtics feel that they can run it back next season without any major changes, perhaps Danny Ainge and company stand pat.
But a center with Drummond’s ability would help Boston in the middle, as the Celtics try to redeem themselves in the East.
The Celtics would also acquire a first round pick next year in this deal. Cleveland holds the No. 5 overall selection in this year’s draft, but Boston already has three first round picks this year and limited roster spots.
If anything, Boston might look to unload one (or more) of its picks this year, rather than adding more.
