Atlanta Hawks
The Atlanta Hawks have a star to build around in Trae Young, but Atlanta could accelerate its process by acquiring a player of Gordon Hayward’s caliber. In the context of Young, it would benefit the Hawks to make a move such as this while Young is still on his rookie contract.
Atlanta owes Young just $6.5 million this upcoming season, and his club option for 2021-22 is worth $8.3 million. The Hawks should have more flexibility now, than when Young signs his first extension and his salary inevitably skyrockets.
Hayward would give the Hawks another scorer next to Young, and Hayward’s 10 years of experience would bode well for such a young Hawks squad. Especially when considering they’re reportedly seeking to make a playoff push next season.
Beyond Young, the Hawks have Cam Reddish, De’Andre Hunter and Kevin Huerter, all of whom are 22 or younger.
