Trade Package No. 2
This trade has a similar outline to the previous hypothetical, but with a few added components. In addition to the parameters in the last slide, the Blazers part with Nassir Little, and the Pistons part with next year’s first-round pick.
As stated with the salary limitations in Portland, the Trail Blazers are limited in the ways they could acquire Griffin. This package is quite rich for an aging star coming off a knee injury.
As such, Detroit would have to part with at least one future first-rounder, just to get Portland to take Griffin’s salary. That’s especially the case with Damian Lillard and C.J. McCollum already on substantial contracts.
Anything more required from the Trail Blazers and it would become no longer worthwhile for them to execute a deal. If that’s not enough for the Pistons, they would be best suited holding off on a deal to see if Griffin can increase his value again.
