Why This Trade Makes Sense For The Pelicans
On the other side of things, fans might be wondering why New Orleans would want to trade JJ Redick. Stan Van Gundy is the new head coach in town and he will be looking to win now. But, the move makes a lot of sense.
Zion Williamson will be entering his second NBA season with the Pelicans. Brandon Ingram and Lonzo Ball are both young talents as well. Jrue Holiday may or may not be back in town.
With those things being said, Redick likely fits in as a bench piece. Acquiring a first-round pick and adding another young piece to the mix would be wise for the Pelicans. Add more young talent around the current core of young talent and let the roster grow together.
Neither D.J. Wilson or Ersan Ilyasova would be a key part of the Pelicans. In fact, both of them could be on the move shortly after this trade, especially Ilyasova.
This move would be all about adding another first-round pick for a veteran play who doesn’t fit long-term. It simply makes sense with how the Pelicans’ roster currently looks.
