Why It Makes Sense For The Pacers
Victor Oladipo is as good as gone in Indiana. The Pacers have made comments about the relationship the two sides have and while it may be good, this is a business. Oladipo got his one big contract in Indiana and it does not seem like he will get another.
Fred VanVleet would add stability to the Pacers. He has been healthy throughout his career. That is something that is important as he would be playing next to Malcolm Brogdon.
The Pacers might be searching for draft capital in return for Oladipo, but they will not find a player ready to contribute immediately like VanVleet. At the end of the day, he may be the deciding factor.
Would VanVleet want to go to Indiana? There is no reason why not. Add in the fact that VanVleet loved the Pacers’ head coaching hire of Nate Bjorkgren and it makes even more sense.
The Pacers have Brogdon and Domantas Sabonis on good contracts, which means they could afford VanVleet. T.J Warren has emerged as a scoring threat. The addition of VanVleet would improve the Pacers and help them compete in the Eastern Conference.
