Why the Heat Should Do It
The Heat have the ability to add another star alongside Jimmy Butler, and Beal could be his ideal running mate.
Beal would give the Heat another extremely talented shooter who can create on his own, and opposing defenses would have to give him the necessary attention, which would bode well for Jimmy Butler.
For Miami, this deal comes with two questions: Is it worth parting with Herro, and would Beal’s acquisition compromise their plans to pursue Giannis Antetokounmpo in 2021?
While Miami is planning to pursue Antetokounmpo, it’s still not a foregone conclusion that he reaches free agency, even if it appears to be trending that way.
As far as parting with Herro, that would be tough for the Heat. But in full context, Miami would be far from the only suitor for Beal in a trade.
The Warriors, for example, could build an offer around the No. 2 pick and a future first rounder. If the Heat are going to acquire Beal, they’d certainly face competition.
