Why The Detroit Pistons Should Do It
In this deal, the Detroit Pistons would trade Derrick Rose while he still has value in the final year of his contract.
Mike Scott is the centerpiece of the deal for Detroit, as the 32-year old would add another layer to the Pistons’ frontcourt.
Detroit also takes a chance on Zhaire Smith, who is just 21 and has very minimal NBA experience.
Smith has played in just 13 games over two seasons, and has dealt with a slew of issues along the way. He had a knee injury, and a foot injury which caused him to miss time.
Worse, though was his bout with an allergic reaction that could’ve been deadly.
Smith is an athletic guard who can soar for high-flying dunks, and he’s a dedicated defender. But to help his all-around game, he needs to develop into a better shooter.
Smith could have a better chance to develop in Detroit than in Philadelphia, where the 76ers need to make a deep run in the playoffs. The Pistons could offer Smith the chance to develop on more of an elongated timeline.
