Why the New York Knicks Should Do It
The rationale for the Knicks is very simple. New York needs a star, someone like James Harden, who can come in and lead the team from day one.
Harden would have the ability to entice others to join him, something the Knicks haven’t been able to accomplish in free agency.
Just last offseason, the Knicks felt confident about signing Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving. As we know, both chose the Nets over the Knicks. Acquiring Harden via trade would circumvent the free agent process and give the Knicks a star to build around.
In a strange way, Harden would give the Knicks the same thing he gave the Rockets 7 years ago: Hope.
When Harden went to Houston, the narrative was more about whether he could flourish on his own team, away from Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook in Oklahoma City.
Harden, of course, blossomed into a superstar and accomplished everything except winning a title so far. He’d join the Knicks as an established superstar who would give the Knicks their best chance to win in years.
