Devin Vassell makes concerning adjustment to shooting mechanics ahead of NBA Draft

The 2020 NBA Draft features some intriguing prospects that teams will have their eyes on. One that will certainly be in the mix is former Florida State standout Devin Vassell.

It has been a long time since this year’s NBA Draft class has participated in live games. That has presented an unprecedented opportunity for the prospects to work on their skill-set and put in work in the weight room.

Not all of that work leads to positive results, as seen in Vassell’s case. In fact, he appears to have unnecessarily changed his shooting mechanics to generate more power for the further NBA 3-point line— worsening his approach.

After receiving negative comments from fans on social media, Vassell chose to delete the video from his social media account. Overall, it was a confusing situation that has raised plenty of questions without answer.

The measurements Vassell has are quite intriguing between standing at 6-foot-7 with a 6-foot-10 wingspan. He’s thought of as having a skill-set with ‘3-and-D’ attributes as a foundation, but with impressive defensive playmaking and further upside to his offensive repertoire.

Perimeter shooting is supposed to be in the ‘strengths’ column for Vassell as he shot 41.5% from deep on 3.5 attempts per game. However, it’s concerning that his shooting mechanics have changed so dramatically, and for the worse.

It will be interesting to see if NBA teams observe Devin Vassell’s shooting during his pre-draft workouts and experience a change in their respective perspectives. If that’s the case, he could end up falling a bit in the NBA Draft order by the time the selections are made.
