Let’s take a trip back in time to 2017. Gordon Hayward is on a free agent tour, mulling a move out of Utah in search of a new destination.

Hayward holds his first meeting of the recruiting process, and it’s with none other than Pat Riley and the Miami Heat.

Riley has done this before, as he’s succeeded in pitching LeBron James, Chris Bosh, and Shaquille O’Neal at various points in his past.

After the meeting, Hayward reveals he was “ready to put on the jersey” after the pitch from Riley and company.

Hayward, of course, would finish his tour and ultimately choose the Celtics. But the interest from the Heat was real, and Miami could make sense again.

The Heat will look to add a star alongside Jimmy Butler, and if Hayward is healthy, he could be one of several players the Heat consider.
