Why the Raptors Should Do It
The Raptors should consider this move if they’re eyeing a transition, eventually handing the keys over to the likes of Pascal Siakam and Fred VanVleet, who had an excellent performance in the NBA bubble.
And this deal in particular wouldn’t tie the Raptors up financially for years to come, which, like the Heat, would keep their flexibility alive.
The biggest salary coming back in this hypothetical is that of Iguodala, at $15 million for next season. Iguodala then has a club option for 2021-22, which could be declined.
In this deal, the Raptors would get back an exciting young player in Robinson, a former Finals MVP in Iguodala, and added depth for their front court in Olynyk.
Trading Kyle Lowry prior to the final season of his contract makes sense if Toronto has plans to eventually pass the torch to Siakam and VanVleet.
