Rationale for Detroit Pistons
The Detroit Pistons have been stuck in a tough situation over the last few seasons. They’ve had the potential to make a run for a playoff spot but injuries have kept them from getting the job done. It’s time to rebuild.
Moving on from Blake Griffin in the offseason won’t be easy when considering the size of his contract and injury history. However, Derrick Rose is coming off a highly impressive season mostly off the bench. His trade value is as high as its been in recent years.
Managing to add an additional first-round pick from the Miami Heat by trading Rose could help the Pistons to either draft an additional prospect, or package it with the No. 7 selection to move up. Either way, it would help further their rebuilding efforts.
The Pistons already made the choice to move on from Andre Drummond before he was due for a contract extension. Not making a similar move with Rose entering the final year of his current contract would go against the start of a rebuild they’ve already made.
