Rationale for Utah Jazz
It’s clear the centerpiece of the Utah Jazz is Donovan Mitchell and he hasn’t always gotten along with Rudy Gobert. Additionally, paying big money to Gobert is not the way to contend in the loaded Western Conference.
The contributions from Joe Ingles have been helpful for the Jazz but it would help to swap him out with a younger option like De’Andre Hunter. Utah would be able to develop the wing with ‘3-and-D’ potential under a team controlled deal.
There’s plenty of options for the Jazz to add an intriguing prospect with the No. 6 pick in the 2020 NBA Draft. Depending on how the top five shakes out, Utah could land a prospect like Onyeka Okungwu, Isaac Okoro, or Killian Hayes to fill a key role.
Landing Capela in this deal would also give the Jazz a serviceable center option to play the role that Gobert has filled— serving as a rim protector and a lob threat on offense.
