Steve Kerr says Warriors’ roster is ‘far from being finished’

The Golden State Warriors had a rough season plagued by injuries to Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson— along with an actual ‘plague’ that caused their season to come to an abrupt ending.

Both Curry and Thompson will be back in the lineup and with that will come a far more competitive product on the court. That won’t be the only changes the Warriors experience to their roster before the start of the next NBA season.

Warriors head coach Steve Kerr made it clear that Golden State is ‘far from being finished’ with the configuration of the roster.

“We have the draft and we have free agency to address all that stuff. And potential trades. I think (general manager) Bob (Myers) would be the first to tell you this roster is far from being finished,” Kerr told The Athletic’s Tim Kawakami.

The main pathway the Warriors have to making a change to its roster is the No. 2 pick in the 2020 NBA Draft. Whether Golden State keeps it and makes a selection or uses the pick in a trade to acquire an instant contributor, it’s by far the team’s most helpful asset.

A particular area Kerr feels as though improvement is needed for the Warriors is in the athleticism department. He expressed that Golden State could use explosiveness on the wings and particularly at the center position.

Whatever it is the Warriors decide to do in terms of roster changes, expect them to be well in the mix to represent the Western Conference in the NBA Finals. Golden State’s core has already proven to be capable of incredible things and they have the tools to add more support around it.
