RUMOR: Paul Millsap could be a free agency target for the Celtics

The Boston Celtics are going to be a very intriguing team to keep an eye on this offseason. After coming up short to the Miami Heat in the Eastern Conference Finals, Brad Stevens and company know they are only a piece or two away from a championship. Could Paul Millsap be that missing piece?

Michael Scotto of HoopsHype mentioned that Millsap could be an intriguing target for the Celtics this offseason in free agency. He is not reporting that there is interest, but is throwing Millsap’s name into the mix of potential targets that Boston could possibly look into.

I’m not reporting this. I’m just throwing it out there. Someone like a Paul Millsap, a guy that’s a rugged guy who can rebound, pick-and-pop, and has veteran experience. Someone along those lines.

Millsap would absolutely be an intriguing fit for the Celtics. He is no longer a star, but he is the kind of glue player that every NBA Finals contender needs to have on their roster.

During the 2019-20 NBA season with the Denver Nuggets, Millsap ended up averaging 11.6 points and 5.7 rebounds per game. He shot 48.2 percent from the floor and knocked down 43.5 percent of his three-point attempts.

Unlike how he used to play, Millsap no longer dominates the ball. He is more of a supporting cast player, which is exactly what the Celtics need.

Jayson Tatum is the clear-cut No. 1 scoring option for the Celtics. Kemba Walker is capable of putting up 30 points on any given night. Jaylen Brown and Marcus Smart can score the ball at a high level as well.

Should the Celtics sign Millsap, they would simply need him to score when open and be a leader. Millsap is more than capable of playing that kind of a role.

Expect to see quite a few teams show interest in signing Paul Millsap this offseason. He is entering the final stages of his career, but is still very valuable to have. The Celtics should absolutely check in to see if they can bring him onboard.
