Knicks are ‘leaning against’ drafting North Carolina’s Cole Anthony

The New York Knicks hold the No. 8 pick in the 2020 NBA Draft and will look to add an intriguing young prospect into the mix. Could former North Carolina guard Cole Anthony be an option?

The Knicks have struggled to find an answer at the point guad position between drafting Frank Ntilikina and acquiring Dennis Smith Jr. Neither option has managed to take control of the role.

According to Marc Berman of the New York Post, the Knicks are ‘leaning against’ using the No. 8 pick to select Anthony— or even if they decided to trade down in the draft order.

The Knicks are leaning against taking the Manhattan point guard with the No. 8 pick, or even if they trade down into the 14-15-range, according to an industry source.

There will be plenty of options for the Knicks in the NBA Draft if they were to try to address the point guard spot. It mostly depends on the style of player they want to pursue. However, Anthony doesn’t appear to be near the top of the list when evaluating the landscape.

Going with an athlete with the hope of developing skill-set has been a route the Knicks seemingly have gone and failed lately. It would be wise to favor proven shooting ability as opposed to giving a failed strategy a third attempt with the hope of different results.

For the Tar Heels, Cole Anthony averaged 18.5 points, 5.7 rebounds, 4.0 assists, and 1.3 steals in 22 games last season. He was limited by injuries at times but was able to solidify himself
