Rationale for Atlanta Hawks

If there would be a hold up in this trade, it would most likely be the Atlanta Hawks. They would need to view Wiggins as a necessary upgrade over one of the wings they recently drafted like Cam Reddish and De’Andre Hunter.

It’s going to be difficult for the Hawks to attract talent in free agency. Even if they did, this year’s class is full of underwhelming options. However, they have the option of staying patient as their prospects develop.

One option for Atlanta could be to utilize their cap space in trade situations to add talent if they want to make a push for the playoffs in 2021. The Hawks already have done this once with the addition of Clint Capela, so why stop there?

It’s not just about Wiggins as the Hawks would receive the Timberwolves’ 2021 first-round pick. The selection is top-three protected and then becomes fully unprotected in 2022, so it’s certainly worth considering.
