Rationale for Golden State Warriors
The Golden State Warriors will have Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson back in their lineup next season. It will be important for Golden State to craft their supporting cast in a way that brings the best out of the team to contend. Myles Turner is an intriguing option for this role.
Being able to pair Draymond Green’s defensive versatility with Turner’s rim protection would be quite an intriguing option for the Warriors. There would be no shortage of impact in weak-side help situations— helping to maximize the unit as a whole.
The offensive system Turner has played in during his NBA career contrasts substantially from how the Warriors play the game. He played in a stagnant scheme that has lacked a high-level facilitator.
For Turner, he’d benefit substantially by setting picks for shooters with the gravity of Curry and Thompson— setting up the ability to dive to the rim and step out from deep for simple shots.
Turner could also fill the weak-side corner or dunker’s spot when Green is setting screens and benefit from Green’s short-roll playmaking. That would create no shortage of catch-and-shoot jumpers and finish attempts for Turner being the lowest priority of the defense.
The No. 6 pick could be used by the Warriors to help bolster a spot in their rotation. There are some intriguing wing options that could be available to them like Isaac Okoro— as Jonathan Wasserman of B/R projected them to take after making this move.
