Why the Heat Should Do It
Miami and Jimmy Butler deserve an immense amount of credit for their performance this season. The Heat are still very much in the picture in the Finals, and that makes it challenging to forecast their future moves.
But you win in the NBA with stars. The NBA is a league where stars can shift the balance of power simply by moving teams.
Jimmy Butler is a star. Tyler Herro may be a star in the making. The same could be said for Adebayo, who has one of the best blocks in NBA playoff history on his resume.
But especially if the Heat lose to the Lakers, they may want to add a star who can help in the front court, which Blake Griffin can when he’s healthy.
The knock on Griffin unfortunately is still his ability to stay on the floor. He has battled injuries throughout his career, and there is absolutely inherent risk in acquiring him.
But if Miami strikes out in free agency unlike last year, the Heat could look to the trade market — and Detroit — for possible reinforcements.
