The trade would put Griffin in a win-now situation in Miami, where he’d have a chance to compete for a title. In Detroit, the Pistons are firmly entrenched in a rebuild.
It’s not that Griffin’s veteran status serves no purpose on a rebuilding roster. Griffin has ample experience which can always help young players. But Detroit could get younger by moving Griffin.
