5 potential trade destinations for Timberwolves star Karl-Anthony Towns

Karl-Anthony Towns has turned into one of the best bigs in the league since being taken No. 1 overall by the Minnesota Timberwolves in the 2015 NBA Draft. He has averaged a double-double in every season since entering the league. For his career, Towns is putting up 22.7 points and 11.8 rebounds per contest.

Let’s start this by saying, it’s highly unlikely the Timberwolves will look to move Towns in the near future. That does not mean that we can’t discuss it from a long-term perspective. Towns signed a five-year, $158.3 million max contract in 2019. Minnesota has made it clear that they want to build around Towns but there have been instances when he’s been reportedly unhappy with the franchise.

The Timberwolves seemed to have calmed things down when they acquired D’Angelo Russell, who was the No. 2 pick in 2015 and a close friend of Towns. The Timberwolves also have the No. 1 overall pick in the upcoming 2020 NBA Draft. This will allow them to get another piece to add to their roster.

There have been many teams keeping tabs on the Towns’ situation with the Timberwolves. Even though a trade is extremely unlikely, these five teams would be all in if the narrative changed.
