2020 NBA Mock Draft: Picks 1-5

1. Minnesota Timberwolves — LaMelo Ball, G, United States

With the recent concerns expressed about Anthony Edwards— for now, LaMelo Ball holds the top spot in our mock draft. Ball’s size for a guard should be a reason for intrigue similar to when his brother, Lonzo, went through the NBA Draft.

2. Golden State Warriors — Deni Avdija, F, Israel

It’s quite possible the Warriors end up either trading away this draft selection, or end up moving down. However, assuming they decide to stay in at No. 2, Avdija would be a strong match. Standing at 6-foot-8, he can play both forward spots while providing shooting and passing.

3. Charlotte Hornets — Anthony Edwards, G, Georgia

The frame and athleticism Anthony Edwards brings to the guard position is intriguing and it’s tough to envision the Hornets passing on it. It would take plenty of work in the player development department in terms of refining his skill-set, but his physical tools are impressive.

4. Chicago Bulls — James Wiseman, C, Memphis

The expectations were high for Wendell Carter Jr. when he entered the NBA. However, he has provided very little value offensively and hasn’t made much of a difference on defense either. Going with Wiseman is a logical choice for upside based on his athleticism.

5. Cleveland Cavaliers — Onyeka Okongwu, C, USC

There’s a lot to like about Okungwu when considering his athleticism and defensive versatility. In a league that heavily values being able to switch, he should be an attractive option for teams — especially after seeing the influence a player like Bam Adebayo has had on this year’s playoffs.
