The Los Angeles Clippers experienced some real shortcomings this season after having championship aspirations. The lack of results prompted the team to make a change from Doc Rivers at head coach.
According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, Rivers is out with the Clippers as their head coach.
After the Clippers were eliminated from the playoffs, Rivers made it clear the team failed to meet expectations. He was took the blame for the lack of results — stating he was the leader of the team as the head coach.
“We didn’t meet them,” Rivers said of the expectations. “That’s the bottom line. I’m the coach, and I’ll take any blame for it. But we didn’t meet our expectations, clearly, because if we had, in my opinion, we’d still be playing.”
There may not be a more attractive head coach vacancy than the Clippers, at the current moment. With Kawhi Leonard and Paul George at the helm and plenty of intriguing role players in the supporting cast, the right coach could help this team take the next step.
There are plenty of intriguing candidates the Clippers could pursue to replace Doc Rivers. Perhaps most intriguing is Mike D’Antoni, however, current assistant coach Tyronn Lue has drawn plenty of interest from other teams. Could the Clippers turn to Lue after seeing his performance this season?
There’s a lot that needs to be sorted out for the Clippers and they will be late to the interview process for most of the candidates. It will take swift action for Los Angeles to move on the top options to make a hire.
