Rockets Receive: Tyler Herro, Duncan Robinson, Andre Iguodala, Kelly Olynyk, 2020 First-Round Pick, 2022 First-Round Pick
Heat Receive: Russell Westbrook, 2021 Second-Round Pick (via PHI), 2021 Second-Round Pick
Wow. Take a minute to read the trade and think it through. It’s a blockbuster, but one that could make sense for both the Heat and Rockets.
Westbrook heading to South Beach would make a lot of sense. He would add the lethal scoring threat that could propel the Heat to the top of the Eastern Conference. Miami would also get a couple of second-round assets to utilize in either trades or selections for themselves.
As for the Rockets, moving on from Westbrook won’t happen unless they get talent back. Tyler Herro is a lethal scorer and could pair nicely in the back-court with James Harden. Olynyk, Iguodala, and Robinson would all be much-needed depth and talent around Harden.
Throw in two first-round picks coming from the Heat to the Rockets and Houston would have to strong consider pulling the trigger on this deal.
Miami may be giving up a bit too much in this deal with the emergence of Herro in the playoffs. Taking out a first-round pick could be plausible as well. Both the Rockets and Heat would get pieces that fit and it could propel both of them to sustained NBA Finals contention.
Obviously, this is just speculation and the Rockets may not be looking to move Russell Westbrook. For that matter, the Heat may have no interest in trading Herro following his postseason breakout.
Expect to hear quite a few rumors surrounding both of these teams this offseason. Both the Rockets and Heat will do whatever it takes to win and coming together on this trade could help them both accomplish that goal.
