The Trade:
Pacers Receive: Ricky Rubio, Mikal Bridges, and the No. 10 overall pick in the 2020 NBA Draft
Suns Receive: Victor Oladipo
Indiana doesn’t want to move Oladipo, but if he doesn’t give them a clear idea of whether or not he’ll re-sign with the franchise, the Pacers should make a move.
Just a few short years ago, the Pacers were in this exact same situation. Paul George acted like he wanted to remain with the team long-term and then forced his way out of town. Thankfully, Kevin Pritchard was able to salvage the situation and get both Oladipo and Domantas Sabonis for him.
Being able to acquire these three assets from the Suns would make the Pacers consider pulling the trigger. Rubio was of interest to the team last offseason in free agency and would allow the Pacers to switch Malcolm Brodgon to shooting guard.
Rubio averaged 13.0 points, 8.8 assists and 4.7 rebounds per game last season with the Suns. Bridges, on the other hand, averaged 9.1 points, 4.0 rebounds, 1.8 assists, and 1.4 steals per game. He would provide Indiana with top-notch perimeter defense.
Adding the No. 10 overall pick would also give Indiana a chance to add a quality young player to their rotation.
For the Suns, adding a talent like Oladipo would make them a much more viable contender. Devin Booker and Oladipo would form one of the NBA’s most lethal scoring back-courts. This would put the Suns back on the map.
Obviously, this could be a trade that neither side has any interest in making. However, it could be a perfect fit for both parties involved as well.
Expect to see both the Suns and Pacers look to have an aggressive offseason. They are both young and up-and-coming teams and making this swap could help them take a step forward in their respective conferences.
