NBA Rumors: Raptors to pursue Montrezl Harrell in NBA Free Agency

The Toronto Raptors once again made a playoff run despite losing Kawhi Leonard in free agency last offseason. It was a year that fans should take pride in, but now the Raptors have to focus on improving their roster. Montrezel Harrell could very well be in their plans this offseason.

According to a report from LegionHoopsRoss, the Raptors are planning to make a run at free agent power forward Montrezl Harrell in free agency.

Granted, this report isn’t coming from Adrian Wojnarowski or Shams Charania, but he does have a legitimate following.

Harrell heading north of the border would make a lot of sense. The Raptors are likely going to lose Serge Ibaka in free agency and Harrell would help replace him. Toronto would be getting younger, more athletic, and better rebounding with this move.

During the 2019-20 NBA season with the Los Angeles Clippers, Harrell ended up averaging 18.6 points per game to go along with 7.1 rebounds, 1.7 assists, and 1.1 blocks. Toronto would be losing some defense from Ibaka to Harrell, but adding him still makes sense.

If the Raptors want to sign Harrell, they are going to have to pay some money. Harrell isn’t going to come terribly cheap.

At just 26 years old, there are going to be quite a few teams interested in bringing him on board. Harrell can’t shoot, but his energy and rebounding are infectious and will help anyone who chooses to sign him.

Expect to hear quite a few rumors with Montrezl Harrell’s name attached to them this offseason. He may not end up signing with the Raptors, but this fit makes a lot of sense for both parties involved.
