Why The Pacers Should Consider Pursuing Chris Paul

Trading for Chris Paul is not going to come cheap, but the Pacers have some assets to make a move. First and foremost, Victor Oladipo would be a name to keep an eye on in this deal. If the Pacers do move Oladipo, they will need a new playmaker in the back-court.

Malcolm Brogdon was the Pacers’ big offseason addition last year. While he played well as a point guard, he would be best served playing as a shooting guard and spotting up behind the three-point arc.

In order to make that work, a point guard like Paul who can get into the paint and kick out to shooters would be ideal.

Mike D’Antoni and Chauncey Billups have received the most hype as potential coaching hires for the Pacers. Paul has a history with D’Antoni and fits nicely in his offense. Not having James Harden on the roster would open up even more opportunities for Paul.

Paul and Brogdon would form a lethal defensive back-court as well. Everyone knows the kind of defense that CP3 brings to the court. Brogdon is a bigger guard who has high basketball IQ and would be able to defend most shooting guards.

Having a talented big man like Domantas Sabonis would also fit Paul’s game well. If the Pacers can acquire a point guard like Paul and add more shooting, they could be a very serious threat in the Eastern Conference.

Granted, Paul may not end up being moved, or he might be traded elsewhere. Both the Milwaukee Bucks and Philadelphia 76ers are expected to try to acquire him. However, the Pacers should be mentioned as an ideal landing spot as well.

Expect to hear a ton of rumors surround Chris Paul this offseason. He may be 35 years old, but is still more than capable of making a major impact for whoever makes a move for him.
