2. New York Knicks
The New York Knicks struck out on the Zion Williamson sweepstakes as well as on Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving in free agency. Additionally, they have struggled to hit on draft picks. It may be time to pursue more established and realistic options to improve.
It must be a priority for the Knicks to use the offseason to add more perimeter shooting or else it’s going to be difficult to compete next season. Shooting 33.7% on an average of 28.4 attempts per game is not going to cut it in today’s NBA.
The only high-volume sharpshooter the Knicks had on their roster was Marcus Morris Sr. and they traded him mid-season to the Los Angeles Clippers. New York’s next two highest-volume shooters were Wayne Ellington (35.0% 3P) and Reggie Bullock (33.3% 3P), both of whom shot 35% or worse.
Pursuing a trade for Hield could also help the Knicks to consolidate some of their roster, too. It would help maximize New York’s guard rotation and may require R.J. Barrett to slide over to the small forward spot more often, but overall, it would provide a needed shooting boost.
