The Trade

Pacers Receive: Patty Mills, Trey Lyles, 2020 First-Round Pick
Spurs Receive:
Myles Turner, 2020 Second-Round Pick

This trade would not be a blockbuster, nor would it have to. If the Pacers do look to move Turner, they will want some good value in return, but he is nothing close to a superstar. On the other hand, the Spurs should be willing to give up some value to get a piece that would fit them perfectly.

During the regular season with the Pacers this year, Turner ended up averaging 12.1 points per game to go along with 6.6 rebounds and 2.1 blocks. He shot 45.7 percent from the field overall and 34.4 percent from the three-point line.

Gregg Popovich and the Spurs need a lethal rim defender, which is exactly what Turner has proven himself to be. He would come in and immediately be the anchor for the Spurs on the defensive end of the court.

Why would Indiana make this trade and send out such a talented piece? Quite simply, the Pacers need shooting and they need more assets. They are going to be entering a new era of basketball with a new head coach.

Mills would bring quality shooting and bench play, while Lyles would bring some depth in the front-court and the ability to get up and down the court.

In order to make this trade work, the Spurs would need to include a first-round pick. The Pacers would be able to find a nice young piece with the No. 11 overall pick or could package that pick for a player that fits their new system. San Antonio would get back a second-round pick to give them another asset.

At just 24 years of age, Turner is an intriguing piece and quite a few teams would like to have him. The Pacers could choose to hold onto him for one more year to see how he plays alongside of Domantas Sabonis, but it seems more likely that they will look to trade the former Texas Longhorns star.

Assuming they do end up moving him, Myles Turner heading to the Spurs makes too much sense. He would have a brand new start and would be playing in an offense that fits his game. This trade makes a ton of sense for both parties involved.
