3. Dallas Mavericks
The Mavericks already have a slew of offensive-minded guards, but pairing Dragic with his fellow Slovenian, Luka Dončić, is an intriguing scenario. Dragic wouldn’t start if he joined the Mavericks, but the 34-year-old could lead Dallas’ second unit.
However, there’s also the chance Dallas feels comfortable with Jalen Brunson sparking the team’s bench. Brunson, who is out for the remainder of the 2019-20 season, is a plus defender who occasionally flashes brilliant vision and playmaking.
Once Brunson returns, Dallas’ need for a point guard in the second unit could dissipate. Although, the Mavericks could use someone like Dragic now. In their first matchup against the Los Angeles Clippers, only one of Dallas’ bench players (Seth Curry) finished in double digits.
Dragic is an accessory the Mavericks want but don’t need. The team likes Brunson’s development, but Dragic brings All-Star experience and enough firepower to be one of the team’s top-four scorers.
Dallas loses veteran guards J.J. Barea and Courtney Lee to free agency this offseason.
