The Cons
Next up, we have to take a look at the cons for the Pacers if they were to trade Myles Turner. Obviously, there is one big thing that would be missing without him on the court.
Turner has been one of the NBA’s elite rim protectors over the past few years. Some have even believed he should have won a Defensive Player of the Year award. He doesn’t receive as much respect as he deserves.
While Sabonis is a very talented offensive player, he is not good defensively. Without Turner on the court, the interior defense would be lacking in a big way for the Pacers.
In addition to his defense, Turner has become a quality three-point shooter. He has connected on 35.3 percent of his threes this season, but can really stretch a defense. Indiana would have to figure out another perimeter power forward if they were to move him.
Finally, Turner is the ideal teammate for a locker room. He has a great voice and always seems to be excited on the bench. Losing that kind of a presence would be tough, especially since Turner is the longest-tenured player on the current roster.
Expect to see the Pacers consider moving Turner, but it wouldn’t be shocking to see him stick around. His deal isn’t terrible and his fit alongside Sabonis hasn’t been a failure either. Moving him would be a tough decision unless a team blows Pritchard away with an offer.
