Is Ja Morant Ready?
Often forgot in the talks of good PG’s is Ja Morant. The reason for that is, no one knows. Trae Young gets all the praise as the best young guard in the NBA but Morant is not that far behind him.
Take into account that he does have his team in the playoff hunt in the West while Young and the Atlanta Hawks struggled this season. On the year, Morant is averaging 17.6 points and 6.9 assists while shooting .491 percent from the floor.
But down in Orlando, Morant will need to elevate his game just a bit more. All eyes will be on the Grizzles not because of Morant but due to Damion Lillard and the Portland Trail Blazers looking to stake claim to that 8th seed. If Morant and his teammates can hold them off, that would be huge to the organization and their young shoulders.
The Grizzlies were picked to struggle this year thanks to their young core but Morant has ignited a Grizzlies’ fan base in 2019. If he can step up he should take over that mantle as the best young PG in the NBA due to his will and leadership. Scoring 25 points per game is cool but if you can’t lead your team to victories, it goes for nothing.
Ask Young how those accolades feel while he’s watching Morant and the Grizzlies in Orlando.
