Is There Enough Playmaking Beyond Doncic?
It’s no secret the Dallas Mavericks put together a special offensive season prior to the suspension of the NBA season. The main factor that has driven the team’s offense has been the tremendous floor spacing around Luka Doncic enabling him to operate at a high-level.
There is still plenty that needs to be sorted out from a seeding standpoint, but the Mavericks are currently slotted to face the Los Angeles Clippers. Their defense gave Dallas problems by sending multiple wings at Doncic and forcing other playmakers to step up.
Most teams do not have the personnel to replicate that strategy against the Mavericks. However, if Dallas does end up having to face off with the Clippers, who will be ready to step up and make plays? Let’s not forget, this will be Luka Doncic’s trip to the NBA playoffs, so an adjustment period could be required.
Based on the landscape of the Mavericks’ roster, they’d need a combination of Tim Hardaway Jr., Seth Curry, and Delon Wright to raise their game. Perhaps involving Kristaps Porzingis more as a short-roll playmaker wouldn’t hurt either.
