Will Tyson Chandler See the Floor?

The Houston Rockets are hell-bent on staying the course with their small-ball approach. No one in their starting five stands over 6’7″ which puts the Rockets in a class as one of the worse defensive teams in the NBA. However, what they lack on the rebounding and defensive end of the court, they more than make up on the offensive side.

Now, will that equal more wins when they resume playing in Orlando later this month? If they fail to defend with their current rotation, will Mike D’Antoni be forced to play the 18-year vet Tyson Chandler? In 65 games with the Rockets this season, Chandler has seen the floor in only 25 while starting just five. During that time, he’s averaged 1.3 points and 2.5 rebounds.

While the Rockets may want to continue to run circles around teams, D’Antoni should really consider giving Chandler some valuable minutes on the floor. While not the scorer he was early in his career, Chandler can still rebound and protect the paint.

The offense will not suffer with Chandler on the floor as he’ll still be surrounded by solid perimeter players and penetrators but the offensive rebound potential will greatly increase.
