Can Mike Conley Get It Going?

Conley was the franchise star in Memphis for many years, but the organization decided to head in a different direction when they drafted Ja Morant last summer. That decision has definitely paid off for the Grizz, but it hasn’t been the easiest transition for Conley in Utah. From a career standpoint, the 32-year old is averaging just over 14 points per game.

This season, he’s putting up 13.8 points per contest, which isn’t far behind his career average. However, in 2018-19, Conley was a staple in the Memphis offense, scoring 21.1 points per game. Across the board, his numbers are significantly down this season. Conley has been less efficient from the field, but on the bright side, he’s been shooting the rock better from three-point range.

It’s obviously been a slight adjustment for him with the Jazz because he’s gone from the man to the second choice ball-handler, with Donovan Mitchell usually orchestrating the offense. But even when Mitchell and Rudy Gobert playing well, it’s still vital that Conley finds his best when league action does return if the Jazz wants an opportunity at competing in the postseason.

With Bogdanovic out, Conley’s usage rate should skyrocket. This could highly benefit him and really allow him to find his best offensively. He’s shown in the past to be a versatile scorer from all over the floor, while also possessing impressive facilitating abilities. Hopefully, the hiatus has given Conley the chance to look at his season so far and allow him to make the necessary adjustments.

This will be his time to shine.
