The Trade
Pacers Receive: Danny Green, Kyle Kuzma, 2020 First-Round Pick
Lakers Receive: Victor Oladipo
This would be a massive trade for both the Pacers and Lakers. Both teams would be taking some risk with the move.
On the Pacers’ side of things, they would be hoping that Kyle Kuzma can figure things out and become a valuable piece of their future. Danny Green would be a solid veteran presence to help fill the shooting guard void left by Oladipo’s departure. A 2020 first-round pick would be nice as well, since the Pacers traded their own to the Milwaukee Bucks for Malcolm Brogdon.
As for the Lakers, they would be banking on Oladipo returning to form next season. Oladipo also only has one year left on his contract. Forming a big three of Anthony Davis (assuming he re-signs this offseason), LeBron James, and Oladipo would be lethal.
In Oladipo’s final game before the season was suspended, he showed extremely positive signs. He scored 27 points against the Boston Celtics and did so in old-school Oladipo fashion.
Both the Lakers and Pacers would change the future of their franchise with this move. Kuzma hasn’t fit in well with the new-look L.A. roster, but there is no guarantee that Oladipo would fit in seamlessly. Indiana would be trading the face of their franchise.
There is no telling what the future holds for Oladipo with the Pacers. He has boldly claimed Indianapolis as his city and has stated that he loves Indiana. However, he has a singing career that he is hoping to build and the bright lights of L.A. would be perfect for him in that aspect.
Expect to hear plenty of rumors about Victor Oladipo and the Pacers as the offseason comes closer. The Lakers may not end up having any interest in trading for the shooting guard, but this trade would make sense if they do.
