There arguably isn’t a team more in need of a frontcourt option that can space the floor than the New Orleans Pelicans. With Zion Williamson behind such a dynamic interior force, letting him have as much room to operate with a player like Serge Ibaka is a must.

The Pelicans made an effort to trade for Indiana Pacers center Myles Turner during the 2019 NBA Draft for this very reason. While circling back on that option is also an option, it would be simpler to pursue Ibaka in free agency to satisfy this need.

There will be room to spend for the center position with Derrick Favors entering free agency. He provided a helpful impact when on the floor this season but doesn’t provide the same jump shooting and rim protection Ibaka would bring to the table.

It would be very difficult to count New Orleans out from landing a playoff next season, even despite being in the loaded Western Conference. This would be an opportunity for Ibaka to be a leader and needed talent on an ascending team.
