Trey Lyles Will Need More Touches
When considering the significant difference in playstyle between Jakob Poeltl and LaMarcus Aldridge, the Spurs will surely need to emphasize Trey Lyles more in its offense. Both players will surely shoulder more responsibility but Lyles’ attributed will be particularly important.
The role in the Spurs’ offense that Lyles has played this season has been quite small. He went from having a 22.9% usage rate during his final season with the Denver Nuggets to having it plummet to just 13.6% with San Antonio. That will surely need to go up considering the circumstances.
Lyles spreads the floor with his perimeter shooting and has an underrated ability to put the ball on the floor to get to the rim. Those are attributes that should help him to make an impact within the flow of the game but at a higher frequency considering the circumstances.
