Jakob Poeltl Will Need To Start
The most obvious way the Spurs will be impacted by LaMarcus Aldridge being sidelined for the remainder of the season is having to insert Jakob Poeltl into the starting lineup. This will help San Antonio to see what Poeltl is capable of achieving with greater responsibility.
There were only 10 games Poeltl had been a part of the starting lineup this season. He played effectively averaging 6.8 points, 7.7 rebounds, and 1.9 assists in 25.0 minutes. The Spurs’ offense will have to change since he’s an interior-oriented big that does the dirty work and isn’t a stretch-five.
The sample size isn’t extensive but the Spurs have achieved favorable results when both Poeltl and Trey Lyles shared the floor this season. For reference, they recorded 151 minutes together resulting in a 115.1 offensive rating, 98.8 defensive rating, and 16.3 net rating.
