RUMOR: Heat may have interest in acquiring Victor Oladipo

The Miami Heat have been one of the top contenders in Eastern Conference throughout the 2019-20 NBA season and are viewed as one of the more intriguing teams to watch when the league resumes play in Orlando. While they have a great roster already, Pat Riley isn’t done building it. Now, it appears that Indiana Pacers star shooting guard Victor Oladipo could be on his radar.

According to Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald, the Heat are still looking to add more star power to their roster around Jimmy Butler and he thinks Oladipo is at the top of their wishlist.

I would put him No. 1 on the most likely list if Miami doesn’t get Antetokounmpo, and if he returns to his old form — two big ifs.

Oladipo in Miami would be a very intriguing fit. Reports have surfaced that his contract talks with the Pacers may not be going smoothly and he also works out in southern Florida during the offseason. Signing with the Heat would be a real possibility.

Speaking of Oladipo’s health, there are major concerns surrounding him. He missed a year due to a gruesome ruptured quad and had just returned before the season was suspended due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The Heat will have some time to evaluate Oladipo’s health before having to make a decision.

Prior to the suspension of play, Oladipo played in 13 games. He struggled to score the ball efficiently, averaging 13.8 points, 3.2 rebounds, and 3.0 assists on 39.1 percent shooting from the floor and 30.4 percent shooting from the three-point line.

Despite the numbers not looking great, Oladipo did put together a great last performance before the league suspended play. Against the Boston Celtics on March 10th, Oladipo scored 27 points to go along with seven rebounds, and four assists.

Expect to hear about quite a few teams with interest Oladipo. Whether they try to acquire him via trade or sign him when and if he hits free agency, the Heat will definitely be a team to keep an eye on.
