Davis Was the Missing Piece to LeBron’s Quest for a Title in LA
Although there’s no guarantees that LA was going to win a title this season, their nightly performances certainly pointed to a potential showdown with the Milwaukee Bucks in the NBA Finals.
Last year, LeBron averaged 27.4 points and 8.3 assists. He actually scored more in 2018-19, but all the offensive output was put on his back. Kyle Kuzma and Brandon Ingram both averaged just over 18 per game, but regardless, the Lakers were 24th in offensive rating and 12th in defensive rating.
Adding Davis before this season was obviously a huge plus on both ends of the court. He’s leading the Lakers in scoring and rebounds while completing the star duo that LeBron needed in order to compete in LA.
Other additions like Dwight Howard have helped the Lakers become a lot better of defensively. Between AD, Howard, and LeBron, they now have outstanding length as well. Even though James was exhilarating last season, it was evident that he needed to find a counterpart to help him compete. LeBron and AD form arguably the best pair in the league and it’s only a matter of time until they’re competing for a Larry O’Brien trophy.
