3 Areas The Nets Must Improve After The All-Star Break

Free Throw Shooting

Jason Getz-USA TODAY Sports

For a team with as many capable ball handlers as the Brooklyn Nets have, why are they shooting such a terrible percentage from the free-throw line? On the season, the Brooklyn Nets rank 25th and that has to change. Another staggering stat is while ranked 25th percentage-wise, they are 9th in free throw attempts with 23.8 attempts per game. At some point, they have to realize that they’re leaving points on the board.

DeAndre Jordan, for a player his size, is only averaging 2.0 attempts per game while hitting .696 percent. The same goes for Allen. He hitting .646 percent from the charity stripe. Those are the two big men the Nets rely on in the paint and when the game is close and teams are looking to foul, why not do the Hack-a-Shaq?

On the perimeter is where it gets a bit dangerous. Irving is a great penetrator and attempts 5.1 free throws per game and leads the team at .922 percent. Spencer Dinwiddie is slightly better than the bigs with his .775 percent. Caris LeVert is no Mark Price with his .707 percent either.

The Nets are averaging 110.5 points per game while giving up 111.0 points. Imagine how different those averages would be and how many wins they would have if they could step to the line with confidence.
