Three-Point Shooting
There comes a moment when the coach must realize that his team just can’t hit the outside shot. For Kenny Atkins, that moment is now. The Brooklyn Nets are ranked 25th in the NBA in three-point shooting. And while their percentage (.342) is not that far off from the league’s leaders, it still begs the difference of why continue to launch them (37.4 per game) if you’re not knocking them down?
With Jarrett Allen and DeAndre Jordan in the post, Atkins must tell his guards to look for the entry pass first. If Jordan and Allen are doubled, then seek the kick-out, and by that time, there should be no rushed shot as feet are set and a better look should be available. It’s all in the preparation and flow of the game.
But coming down and jacking up one with 15 seconds left on the clock is never good. This is a Kyrie Irving trait and other players have followed suit to his shot selection. Yes, not having a player like Kevin Durant has hurt them but Durant has not been there at all this season so, it’s not as if they’ve had to adjust their scheme any.
